McNally Jackson Cafe and Bookstore Design by Front Studio

McNally Jackson Design Cafe, which is part of the McNally Jackson Bookstore in Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood, settled by Front Studio based in New York. This room design is very unique as a book that is strewn drastically depending on the ceiling, as if a stack of books have been thrown into the sky and frozen.

Curved wall surrounding the seating area is covered in wallpaper made entirely of open-book spinal cord, print adds texture ripple effects anxiety pages. Running along the wall is a series of folding tables, arranged carefully folded like a book when closed. The new menu is made from food-related quotes illuminated by 4 lamps, each one dedicated to the many editions of a single book.

McNally Jackson Books is one of the largest independent booksellers in downtown Manhattan. The owner wished to re-conceptualize the café as a place evocative of literature. A fluid collaboration between the owner and architects, all avid readers, the newly realized space creates visceral connections to the act of reading in each programmatic function.
